this one has a very rough surface which works well as a vehicle for the sparse foliage and buds.

Goache on Paper - water based medium like tempera, applied to rough cotton paper which was also fluffed with a knife to give it more texture.

Slender Trees, (right) oil and sand with clay on canvas, 28"x22", it is from a higher stance to get this almost oriental composition. The tree trunks are slender and merely provide a foil for the deep implied space.

it has a fine grain surface and warm colors and tonal contrasts and conveys the sense of being on high ground.

Sketch, North End, blackwater phase - 12"x18" -
oil on canvas -- this sketch documents the black water that was under duckweed before I had the pond stocked with grass carp - now the water is greenish.
