This is the December Home page, hence the Christmassy color scheme and holiday greeting from Publisher, Jim Rodgers and his family and staff.
The logo is my design as are the thumbs of the ads which linked to an enlargement of the print ad (decent ram and connection speed were required to appreciate).
The idea behind the organization of this page was to line up ads along the right hand side and have the valuable links to the actual events and stories on the left. The reader would scroll down to view the content matter and be lead to view the ad "buttons".
Once a person had clicked on a story or an ad, they could browse through the pages using a navigation bar on each page containg "Back | Home | Next", just like leafing through a magazine. Most of the pages with content were relatively quickly navigated since they had the smaller ads on them and the larger ads had their own pages with links to the web site of the advertiser (if they had one). I was just on the brink of alternating the ad pages and content pages instead of having 3 seperate loops for Events (upcoming), Features (past events and stories) and Ads.
The ad buttons were created using the logos and images from the actual print ads (Illustrator files) and arranging them to form a bold and clear message in the style and color scheme of the print ad.
In all, it was really pleasing to browse through the pages and I used a similar set up for my own sites (this site and www.virginiamcclure.com).
A special page that I set up for the Bulletin and would like to leave up for my own use and for my friends and friends of the Bulletin is the Links page.
